Grow veggies without displacing flowers
I'm too foolish about flowers to give over my limited bits of sunny garden to a proper vegetable plot. But this time of year I think about it, with yearning. I've tasted sautéed spinach picked from the garden not 15 minutes earlier. I've swooned over steamed young potatoes my son dug with a kindly farmer at a bed and breakfast in the south of England. Although that experience was 11 years ago, it's a persistent and pleasant food memory for both of us. .

Home Diagnostics up for incentives
The city of Fort Lauderdale has already approved a deal that would give the diabetic testing supply manufacturer the same amount of incentives. The balance of the funds would come from the state's Qualified Target Industries program. Home Diagnostics (NASDAQ: HDIX) would create the 135 jobs over four years and must maintain each new employee for at least one year. The average salary must be at least $42,629. "They are adding the types of jobs that we want to have in the community," said James Tarlton, president of the Broward Alliance, which worked with the company on the deal. "They are creating the knowledge base of workers that are important to building a high-tech environment here." The county estimates the expansion would generate $837,671 in tax revenue, which would be tapped to give the company incentives.
Shirvington urges Ross: Don't give up
While Ross faces a massive challenge to qualify for Beijing, Shirvington has declared he may continue his sprint career beyond Beijing. Shirvo won his last national crown in 2002 while his previous Olympic campaign was in Sydney in 2000. But his impressive form in winning the Sydney grand prix and a third place behind world record holder Asafa Powell last week has given him a confidence boost in his bid to qualify for Beijing. "Can I secure the national title again (tomorrow night) and put pressure on the selectors to choose me? I'd like to think so," he said. "The way I am heading, I believe I am going to be running fast in August and I believe I can justify a spot to be there. I have always thought of Beijing being 'my Olympics'." Ross's coach Paul Nancarrow believes his disillusioned superstar still has the time and talent to make it to the Beijing Games.
Can this shiny lip gloss slim your hips?
Rub on a lip gloss and lose weight. Sip a berry drink and look younger. Down some iced tea and burn calories. If only it were that simple. “Always on the lips … never on the hips," promise ads for the new "Fuze Slenderize Guilt free" lip gloss. Marketed by Too Faced Cosmetics, the flavored lip gloss claims it can suppress your appetite with the same mix of minerals and ingredients found in Coca-Cola's Fuze energy fruit drinks. As Americans continue to struggle with weight loss, marketers are getting more outlandish with their quick-fix diet claims. At least with Fuze, a blend of the minerals chromium and L-carnitine, along a hydroxycitric acide extract called Super Citrimax, the calorie conscious had to drink a full bottle of the beverage to get the promised hunger-easing metabolism boost.
